The 4.2.1 jailbreak Tool was released by Unlock Guide Team and over 500 iPhone models are now unlocked according to our readers feedback.
Here is a detailed step-by-step guide and software to Unlock iPhone 4/3g/3gs 4.0.2 compatible on 5.13.04 baseband.
Some important points to note before we start:

* This step-by-step guide is exclusively to unlock iPhone 4/3g/3gs 4.0.2/4.1.. We would suggest you use QuickPwn to unlock the iPhone 4/3G/3Gs 4.0.1.

* The current version of yellowsn0w does not support SIMs with PIN enabled. So please disable any PIN you may have on that SIM before using this guide. The Dev team are currently working to support SIMs with PIN so this is a temporary limitiation.
* If yu want to know if Dev team’s unlocking solution has worked for your carrier, please check the Yellowsn0w report.
Preparatory steps before unlocking your iPhone 4/3g/3gs:

* Dev team’s unlocking solution works exclusively with baseband firmware 4.2.1/4.1 even 3.1.3 which comes bundled with firmware 4.0, so you will need to upgrade your iPhone 4/3g/3gs to iPhone firmware 4.0 without preserving its baseband and jailbreak it. You can check your firmware and modem firmware(baseband) versions via Settings->General->About and look for Version and Modem Firmware. iPhone 4/3g/3gs firmware Version should be 4.0 (5G77) and Modem Firmware should be 4.2.1/4.1 even 3.1.3.

* You need to first jailbreak your iPhone 4/3g/3gs to unlock it. You can checkout this simple step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 4/3g/3gs using QuickPwn for Mac users or this step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 4/3g/3gs using QuickPwn for Windows users.

Once your iPhone 4/3g/3gs running iPhone firmware 4.0 (with baseband firmware 4.2.1/4.1 even 3.1.3) is jailbroken, you are ready to unlock iPhone 4/3g/3gs.

Unlock iPhone 4/3g/3gs using yellowsn0w:
1. Launch Cydia from your iPhone 4/3g/3gs’s home screen.

2. You need to add the source of the yellowsn0w application. So tap Manage, one of the tabs at the bottom and then tap Sources.

3. Tap the “Edit” button on the top-right corner of the screen.

4. Then tap on the “Add” button on the top-left corner of the screen.

5. You’ll be prompted to add a Cydia/APT URL. Enter http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ as the source URL for the yellowsn0w application and then tap the “Add Source” button.

6. Once the source has been added press the “Return to Cydia” button at the bottom of the screen.

7. Then tap the “Done” button at the top-right of the screen. This completes the steps to add the source for the yellowsn0w application so you can install it.

8. Tap on the apt9.yellowsn0w.com source that was just added from the list of sources.

9. Tap on apt9.yellowsn0w.com again from the list of packages.

10. You will get an option to install the yellowsn0w application. Tap the “Install” button on the top-right corner of the screen.

11. Tap the “Confirm” button on the top-right corner of the screen.

12. This will install the yellowsn0w application, you will see the progress on the next screen and the “Return to Cydia” button will come up once installation is complete.

13. Tap on the “Return to Cydia” button and press the “Home” button on your iPhone 4/3g/3gs to go back to the home screen.

14. You need to reboot your iPhone 4/3g/3gs so that the yellowsn0w application which is a small daemon is launched on boot up. Press the “Sleep” button and hold it until you see the “Slide to power off” message. Then slide to switch off the iPhone.

15. Once your iPhone 4/3g/3gs has shutdown, insert the desired SIM card and restart your iPhone 4/3g/3gs.

16. Once your iPhone boots up and you see the “Slide to Unlock” screen, wait for around 10 to 15 seconds (may be more) to see if your iPhone 4/3g/3gs picks up the carrier signal.

17. The Dev team has reported that there is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus. So if your iPhone 4/3g/3gs doesn’t pick up the carrier signal after reboot then try to try to pull out the SIM card and re-insert it, wait for another 10 - 15 seconds and see if your iPhone 4/3g/3gs picks up the signal of the carrier.

If it does then you have successfully unlocked your iPhone 4/3g/3gs.

Use Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 to Jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G on iOS 4.1

If you have the final version of the iOS 4.1 on your iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G you will be delighted to hear that you can now jailbreak these devices with Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 even if you operate your PC on Windows. The previous version of Redsn0w 0.9.6 was only available for Mac OS X users but the iPhone Dev-Team have done some work on this tool and in its latest release you have Windows built in.

This latest release of Redsn0w is still in beta for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G using iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.0. It does how use the same pwnage2 DFU mode exploit but you should note that it does not include the SHAtter exploit that has been developed by pod2g. With this jailbreak there is nothing new being revealed to Apple either which is good news.

There is something that I should point out for anyone wishing to use the Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 jailbreak and that is that if you have an MC model of the iptg2 the jailbreak on your iOS 4.1 will be tethered. This is unfortunate but you can rollback to a FW supported version by using jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com.

If you currently have and rely on an unlocked iPhone 3G then you are advised not to use this tool because you will lose your Ultrasn0w unlock forever. The Redsn0w tool will jailbreak your iPhone 3G on the iOS 4.1 but in doing this it also updates your baseband to 05.14.02 which is currently unlockable with the current version of Ultrasn0w so you need to be careful if you decide to use Redsn0w.

If you haven’t unlocked your iPhone and you want to jailbreak it then the Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 with Windows built in is the perfect solution.

Jailbreak iOS 4.0 & 4.1 on iPhone 4 & 3GS Tutorial Using Limera1n

As I’m sure you already know, Geohut has released their very much available jailbreaking tool called Limera1n. This amazing new tool has the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.0 and 4.1 on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, the iPod Touch 3G and 4G and the iPad. If you have an iPhone 4 or 3GS and you are running iOS 4.1 on the new or old bootrom then the following step by step tutorial is all you need.

Steps To Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and 3GS with Limera1n:

  • 1. The first thing that you have to do is download Limera1n. The link for this is Download
  • 2. Once you have downloaded your tool the next thing you need to do is download and install iTunes 10.0.1
  • 3. Next you need to connect your iPhone to your PC and start iTunes.
  • 4. You need to ensure that your iPhone is running on stock iOS 4.0 or iOS 4.1. It is worth noting that if you have an unlocked iPhone do not under any circumstances upgrade to iOS 4.1 using iTunes. If you do it will upgrade your baseband to 05.14.02 on the iPhone 3GS and 2.10.04 on the iPhone 4. If you are using an iPhone 4 you can upgrade to iOS 4.1 without affecting your baseband by using TinyUmbrella.
  • 5. Next you need to launch the Limera1n.exe file. The image below is what you should see.

6. You need to click on the make it ra1n button. When you do this Limera1n will automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode and you will see the image below.

7. While your iPhone is in recovery mode you will see the image below being displayed on your iPhone screen.

8. You need to now hold the Home+Power buttons on your iPhone and keep an eye on what the Limera1n tool is displaying.

9. When the release power button is displayed by Limera1n you can release the power button. Make sure that you keep holding the Home button though.

10. You need to keep holding the Home button until the Limera1n screen displays in DFU mode.

11. Once you have the image above you need to wait a couple of moments while Limera1n actually jailbreaks your device. When this has been completed you will see the following message being displayed.

12. You will also receive a message saying that your jailbreak has been completed. Next all you have to do is turn on your device and you will see that the Limera1n app has been installed on your iPhone. You can then launch this app and you will be able to install Cydia from here. Once Cydia has been installed successfully you will be able to remove the Limera1n app.

That’s all there is to it.

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and 3GS with Limera1n

GeoHot stated on their official website and on the iPhone Dev Team’s Blog that Limera1n is a bootrom level jailbreak too and it works on the iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and the iPad. It can also technically work with the Apple TV 2G as well. What’s worth noting, is the fact that Limera1n does not rely on the SHAtter exploit which is good news when you consider the amount of iDevices this jailbreak works on. Limera1n uses a different bootrom based exploit and this is why it can do so much.

More Information About Limera1n

Limera1n is currently in beta release and this means that it is now fully stable and there may be some bugs to be ironed out. If you are feeling adventurous and you don’t have time to wait around for the final version of this tool to be released you can go ahead and download and use the Limera1n tool. Before you rush ahead and do this here is some things that you need to know about the Limera1n tool.

• Limera1n is a jailbreak tool only and it won’t unlock your phone. If you currently rely on ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone then you are advised not to upgrade to iOS 4.1 just yet. The iPhone Dev Team is working on an upgrade for the PwnageTool jailbreak that will allow you to upgrade to iOS 4.1 without changing your baseband.
• Limera1n only works on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G running the iOS 4.1. It will also work on the iPad that is running the iOS 3.2.2. If you have an iPhone 3G you will need to use the Redsn0w jailbreak tool.
• Limera1n is an untethered jailbreak tool.
• Limera1n is only avialable for Windows users at the moment and GeoHot are working on a Mac and Linux version which will be released at a later date.
• Limera1n does not support the beta version of iOS so if you are running this on your iDevice this jailbreak tool won’t work.
• There is one known bug that has been identified. If Cydia does not appear on your iDevice after running Limera1n you need to reboot your device.
